This is episode 92 of my business podcast 'The Online Business Podcast' - you can subscribe to it everywhere podcasts are found and I've linked apple podcasts here if you want to follow, subscribe or check out other episodes.

 ____________________________________________________________

This is a press record and talk podcast about my journey in business from 2011-2021.

It goes through my failures, my successes and how both were equally as important as each other on my journey.

“If you’re going through hell, keep going” – Winston Churchill

  • I qualified in 2011 and made three separate attempts to get my business up and running.
  • Renting a gym and seeing ‘0’ in my bank account for the first time
  • How I spent 2014/2015 in the gym trading time for money (and used competing as leverage to build more awareness)
  • Reading Crush It and starting social media in 2014
  • 2016 was my first 6 figure year
  • The next logical step - scaling up my business model with the BKF online program (then my top 50 program)
  • I niched the GAA Lean Body market and ran a major ad campaign on Facebook to move up another level
  • Transitioning into other markets with courses and programs to serve my current audience
  • The reason I started the podcast and how I used it to grow my brand and leveraged that to speak (corporate and then my own seminars)
  • Getting rejected by 14 publishers for The Fitness Mindset and the route I took after

  • Writing my first book as a pre-qualification for my program
  • Hiring more people (full time and free lancers) to continue to scale up and get my time back to focus on my IGT’s. (income generating tasks)
  • How you can do it - niche, test things, bud a brand, be consistent and patient but pivot when things aren’t working

Michael Anthony (Unbroken) is a best-selling author, speaker and coach who helps trauma survivors get out of the vortex to become the hero of their own story.

Michael is an advocate for adult survivors of child abuse and has been called the “Tony Robbins of Trauma” and spends his time helping other survivors get out of The Vortex to become the hero of their own story and take their live back.

Michael hosts both The Michael Unbroken and Think Unbroken Podcasts and blogs weekly at www.ThinkUnbroken.com

This podcast needs to come with a warning.

Michael had a horrific childhood and there will be content in here that is difficult to listen to. I also share some of my darker life moments in this episode (things I’ve never previously discussed online) so this was a difficult episode to press publish on personally. However, these podcasts tend to be the ones that have life changing impact for those that need it, so I’ve felt the fear and pressed publish anyways (raw and unedited).

I hope it helps those who need it most.

Here are some of the things we talked about:

·     Michael’s horrific childhood and how to heal yourself from trauma

·      Removing your need for external validation.

·      What to do if you have toxic parents (or loved ones)

·      How to release trauma from your body

·      How trauma is stored in the body

·      Understanding the nervous system response after trauma

·      And much more

He is also a two-time New York Times bestselling author and the author or the great new book A Runner’s High.

Dean was named by TIME magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the world for pushing his body and mind to inconceivable limits. Among his many accomplishments, he has run 50 marathons, in all 50 US states, in 50 consecutive days. He’s run across Death Valley in the middle of summer, and he’s run a marathon to the South Pole.

His list of competitive achievements includes winning the World’s Toughest Footrace, the Badwater Ultramarathon, and winning the 4 Deserts Challenge, racing in the hottest, driest, windiest and coldest places on earth.

This is our round 2 of the podcast, Dean also appeared on episode 182: Getting Comfortable Being Unconformable in 2018. In today’s show we talk all things ultra-running and mindset for this long overdue episode.

Here are some of the things we talked about:

  •     Developing the mindset of embracing the suck and silencing the voice that tells you to quit
  •     Why you are the sum totals of all your habits and how to create new ones
  •     Why endurance never sleeps and running an ultra is simple, all you have to do is not stop

The importance of mindset growing pains – until you go over the edge, you don’t know how far the edge is

  •     Why the struggle aftermath is important– “that is is most difficult to endure is the most satisfying to reminisce”
  •     Using forward projection to avoid quitting when things get really hard
  •     The game changing advice Dean offered me when I first got into ultra-running
  •     And much more

Luke is a British Olympic gold medalist, commonwealth champion and former professional boxer.

As an amateur, he won gold at the 2008 European Championships, silver at the 2011 World Championships, and gold at the 2012 Olympic games in London, all in the bantamweight division.

He also challenged twice for lightweight world titles. In July of this year, he retired from professional boxing — nine years after winning Olympic gold at the London Games.

Today’s podcast is a fascinating deep dive into what it takes to develop that champion mindset. Luke is so incredibly down to earth and humble and there is so much to be taken from this podcast even if you’re not fan of boxing or sport in general.

Here are some of the things we talked about in today’s podcast:

  •     Finding your passion in life (whatever that is)
  •     Advice to his younger self and what you need to do to stay on the right path
  •     What he would have done if he hadn’t been a professional boxer
  •     Winning the Olympic gold medal at London 2012
  •     The mindset shift from amateur to pro
  •     His relationships with social media as a professional boxer
  •     The power of enjoying the moment
  •     His toughest fight (physically, mentally and emotionally)
  •     The importance of your inner circle and surrounding yourself with the right people.
