Paul has trained and mentored people for over 30 years as a keynote speaker all over the world.

He believes that everyone has huge but often untapped potential and helping them to discover and release it is his passion.

He now focuses on three main passions - Communication, Leadership & Growing People.

A lot of you will recognise Paul’s voice from episode 237 on 3rd May 2021: Paul Scanlon on The Art of Unlearning, Developing ‘Get Back Up’ Skills When Life Gets Difficult and Why It’s Okay To Outgrow People! - which is linked in description below as well.

“Don’t blame a clown for acting like a clown, ask yourself why you keep going to the circus?”

Here are some of the things we talked about in today’s podcast:

  • Getting “unstuck” in a relationship, a job or a health/fitness/wellness journey
  • Why you shouldn’t be doing life with people that exhaust you!
  • Self-acceptance vs self-love and the reason its so difficult to grow
  • The reason you should stay away from people who make you feel hard to love!
  • The beauty of not fitting in!
  • Why should you stop trying to forget something bad somebody once did to you and focus on remembering and softening instead!
  • Never make yourself small or dial yourself down just to suit somebody else
  • Finding your “no” voice
  • And more

Gerry is the best-selling author of Awaken Your Power Within, a co-founder of soul space and a high performance and health coach.

His new book The Freedom Within presents us with the secrets of releasing untapped reservoirs of strength and calm to live with more confidence, ease and an incredible sense of inner peace in our lives.

His first appearance on the podcast episode 341: The Soul Coach Gerry Hussey on The Power Of Letting Go, Awakening Your Power Within and The Path To Your True Self was the most downloaded episode of 2021 so I highly recommend checking it out after this episode if you haven’t listened already.

We picked up right from where we left off on our first episode together. Here are some of the things we talked about in today’s podcast:

  • Chasing the feeling of being enough and how this leads us down a path of toxic people or destructive behaviors
  • Healing emotional wounds from the past and learning to integrate them so they don’t control you any longer
  • Why we can only operate out of a place of fear or love – never both.
  • The “unlovable” core wound and working through it
  • Why learning to forgive yourself is the biggest gift you can ever give yourself
  • The reason we have to face it to feel it to heal it and then we can move on
  • And more.

Sarah is an exercise physiologist and nutritionist.

She specializes as a women's confidence coach with a holistic focus on mindset, nutrition and fitness.

With her 22 years of experience, her goal is to help transform your mind and body to rock “your mom bod” with confidence.

We sing from a very similar hymn sheet in our fitness approach and have quite similar backgrounds; so this was a very enjoyable conversation.

If you are a parent or plan to have children in the future, there is exceptional value in this episode for you.

Here are some of the things we talked about in today’s show:

  • The horrible trend of ‘fitness’ and ‘skinny’ shaming that is trending on social media
  • Building up enough self-esteem to deal with people not supporting you on your journey
  • Dealing with online hate and trolls by developing more self-confidence and understanding why ‘hurt people hurt people’
  • Getting back to your ‘pre mom or pre dad’ self by asking what inspired you before you became a parent and not losing yourself when you have kids!
  • Being too lean and infertility or erectile dysfunction issues

His Instagram and TikTok both have over half a million followers.

On his channels he shares simple and practical tips on fat loss and healthy living.

Here are some of the things we talked about in today’s show:

Dr. Grayson is a behavior change communications consultant who teaches about Public Health Communications in the Master of Public Health Program in the Larner College of Medicine at the University of Vermont.

Her life changed in 2016 when she suddenly realized that she had been concealing a lifelong dependence on sugar and carbs beneath a web of denial (“It’s just a sweet tooth”) and rationalization (“I’ve been good so deserve a treat”).

After she taught herself to quit, she started helping others do the same by creating the program Breaking Free from Sugar, which has helped over 3,000 people successfully reduce how much sugar they eat. That program is shared in her book “The Sweet Tooth Dilemma”.

In today’s podcast, we discuss all things sugar and what we can do to get it under control to improve our waistline, mood and energy levels.

Here is what we talked about:

  • Processed and refined vs natural sugar – what you need to know
  • The difference between sugar and food addictions
  • The porridge to avoid when trying to manage blood sugar levels
  • The 5 pathways of sugar dependency
  • Sugar misconceptions
  • The non-obvious things to avoid
  • And more

Today’s podcast is a solo episode.

As opposed to a recap podcast or even going through what happened in detail (as I sum that up in about 5 minutes) – I talk through some of the mindset elements I struggled with the most: expecting the unexpecting, just because something is difficult doesn’t make it valuable, not forcing things to happen etc

Hopefully there is a value here regardless of what stage of life you are in or the difficulties you may be currently going through.

Short written recap:

As some of you know, I flew out to Kyrgyzstan (beside China) to run 200km over five days up the Tian Shan mountain range. The plan was to hike for three days to acclimatize to the altitude and then run for 5 days up Tian Shan; but unfortunately, after picking up an infection in the capital Bishek, I only made basecamp 1 before I got hit with severe sickness.

Here’s the story about it and what I learnt from the experience.

Paul Scanlon has trained and mentored people for over 30 years as a keynote speaker all over
the world. After three decades in the not-for-profit sector, Paul has successfully transitioned and
reinvented himself as an educator through both his LIVE and online Masterclass events in
Communication, Leadership, and Personal Development.
Paul’s three strands of focus are: Communication, Leadership, and Human Flourishing. His
hallmark is making complex things simple. Paul passionately believes it’s more important to
grow people than things.
He believes that there’s greatness in everyone and knows that most need the help of a well-
chosen coach or mentor to discover it.
He is also the host of the podcast Growing Big People with Paul Scanlon. This was a fantastic
conversation and one I am very grateful for having. Although Paul’s microphone quality isn’t as

high as other podcast guests, the value he speaks more than makes up for it. This was a mini
therapy session for me so I hope you get as much from it as I did.
Key Points
One of the big traps people fall into, especially with the political and cultural climate
nowadays, is boxing themselves into a certain identity, or what Paul calls “labels”. By
labeling yourself solely by your sex, race, political affiliation, or religion, you adopt the
“ghetto mentality” and limit your potential to grow and connect with people around
you. Avoid imprisoning yourself in an echo chamber and open your mind to all that the
world offers.
Social media has normalized our natural human tendencies to focus on the “highlight
reels” of those we admire. This has created a generation of people who lack “getting-
back-up” skills. Paul encourages us to read stories of great people and pay attention
more to how they recover from setbacks than to the glitz and glamour of success that
only comes after endless trials and hardships.
It’s so hard to let go of beliefs, habits, and behaviours that are no longer serving us
because 1) we don’t know what to replace it with, and 2) we often learn these things via
people we respect like our parents, and we fear upsetting that person by changing. It’s
okay to outgrow people. In fact, almost every new version of you that emerges involves
leaving someone behind.

Logan is a behavioral scientist turned dating coach, and the author of How To Not Die Alone.

As the Director of Relationship Science at the dating app Hinge, she leads a research team dedicated to helping people find love. After studying psychology at Harvard, she ran Google’s behavioral science team—the Irrational Lab.

Her work has appeared in The New York Times, The Atlantic, TIME. The Washington Post, GQ, Glamour, Vice, and on HBO and the BBC.

Today’s podcast goes deep on all things dating and relationships. It’s a full-circle podcast from meeting someone to breakups and finding the one—we cover it all today. Also, I touch on some of my personal attachment styles and previous dating tendencies; so, today’s episode goes through some new topics not previously explored on the podcast.

Key Points

· Each of the three dating tendencies have to do with unrealistic expectations. The romanticizer has unrealistic expectations of relationships. The maximizer has unrealistic expectations of their partner. The hesitator has unrealistic expectations of themselves. Unrealistic expectations of any kind create huge problems because, even if things are going great, the person is never satisfied with what they have at present.

· Our society has become obsessed with “the spark”: the idea of instant chemistry, that pang of connection; that feeling when you walk into a room and everything else fades and you can only focus on that person. Now, the spark is a wonderful thing; but you should not be selecting your long-term life partner based on it as it’s nothing more than a first impression. Instead, go for the slow burn and get to know the person beyond first impressions.

· Becoming ready for marriage is a matter of the level of your intentionality. You have to exercise the same muscles that you do to strengthen your growth mindset and goal-orientedness and know how you want your future to look. With regard to marriage itself, ask yourself a series of questions, such as whether you see yourself with your

partner in the long run and how you’ve both weathered conflict. Then, ask your partner questions such as how many kids you want to have, the religion you want to raise them on, and how you want to manage your finances.

Emily Morse is a Doctor of Human Sexuality and the host of the longest-running sexual wellness podcast Sex with Emily. She is also the best-selling author of the book Hot Sex: Over 200 Things You Can Try Tonight.

Emily has helped millions of people around the world navigate their sex lives.

Her candid conversations challenge cultural taboos, misinformation and awkward sex talks to create a future where people can deeply connect and embrace pleasure-filled lives.

Warning: This podcast is content of an adult nature.

This is a very wide-ranging conversation around all things sex (for single people and those in relationships) but here are some of thing things we talked about in today’s podcast:

Key Points

· Pleasure is our birthright, and it goes beyond sex. We should be deliberately setting aside time everyday to go toward those things that give us pleasure. For one reason or another, there are times when we feel the need to stifle or numb pleasurable feelings. In the context of sex, this is one of the big reasons many topics have become taboo, and why many men and women find having these conversations with their partners very uncomfortable.

· A lot of people believe that scheduling sex is the least sexy thing you can do because it just seems like another task instead of being spontaneous. But the whole point of scheduling sex is that everyone is so busy nowadays that everything is prioritized before sex. Before we know it, days, or even weeks, go by and nothing happens. By having sex

scheduled, you incentivize yourself to prepare for it and make it worthwhile for both partners.

· “When we heal ourselves sexually, we heal so many other parts of our life.” Many people look at sex as an “outlier”. Physical, mental, and spiritual health are all the rage now, and sexual health is like the “bastard child” of the wellness industry. On the extreme end, some people have experienced sexual assault. For most others, there is low self-esteem around one’s sex life. Once we come to terms with these “underlying roadblocks” to a healthy sex life—perhaps via therapy, other times by simply having open conversations with our partner about sex—other areas of our life improve, such as having boosts in our immune system, serotonin, and other feel-good hormones.
