Today’s episode is a two parter. The first half, I go through how to build your body and get better at your sport and the second half is an interview with Ireland Rugby International Robbie Henshaw. Thanks so much to my man Robbie for coming on.

Part 1:
·      How to combine Hypertrophy, Strength and Metabolic Conditioning to build muscle, get leaner and get faster and stronger for your sport.
·      How to eat so you maximise energy and performance. Also the keys to a good carb load.

Part 2:
Robbie Henshaw interview.

1.     Tracking macros is taking its toll mentality, any tips?

2.     Whats your opinion on training through muscle soreness, ie training chest when its still sore?

3.     What is your opinion on Keto?

4.     How can I build confidence and voice projection?

5.     Should I take a year off to go to Australia or save my money and do a masters?
Oct 20, 2017

Tony Robbins regular says ‘ask better questions if you want better answers’ – these are 5 questions that I still ask myself at least once a week when things are feeling particularly hard or difficult.

This is one of these rare episodes (alongside ‘how to find your life purpose’ and ‘the tips I would give my 18 year old self’) that I would have given anything to hear five years ago. I hope it helps you as much as it helped me re-listening to it.

1.     What would I do for free?
My version of success is waking up every morning knowing that if I won the lotto, Id still does what I’m doing now. What would you do for free? Build your life around that.

2.     What does my perfect day look like?

Who are you spending the day with, what are you doing and why is it perfect? Find the things that make you happy, do more of it, find the things (and people) that make you unhappy, do less of it.

3.     What would this look like if it were easy?
I more than anyone have to deal with ‘superman syndrome’ where I think I can do it all and bite off more than I can chew, which normally just leads to stress and anxiety. This is my ‘go to’ question when feeling overwhelmed or anxious.

4.     Who am I doing it for?
The how means nothing until you find your why. The days you’re tired, struggling and don’t know if you can continue, ask yourself, who is it for?

5.     What would you do if you knew you couldn't fail?
As soon as I start to get in my own head and start thinking about what could go wrong, I ask myself this one question and it opens everything else up. If you feel your own biggest enemy lives between your two ears, then ask yourself this questions every time you feel you can’t do something.

I know myself that October is such a hard month to stay motivated so here’s a challenge if you need something to keep you accountable for the month ahead.

1)    Cut all the processed food for the month of October

2)    Only have sugar or alcohol on Saturday night.

3)    Add these 20 minutes of finishers instead of cardio at the end of workouts

4)    If you cant get to the gym, add 100 squats or push ups a day

5)    Add a strong probiotic twice per day (gut health and
absorption)

6)    Drink an extra half a litre every day

7)    Add two cups of green tea a day

Screenshot and put as the screensaver of your phone to ensure you do it every day.

Hashtag #briankeanefitness on Instagram for accountability for the month of October.

Any change you need to make (your body, your job, a realtionhisp) comes from caring what other people think about you! I needed this episode so badly when I moved from London.

1)     Who is your inner circle? Their opinions matter, nobody else’s does!
“Those that matter don’t mind and those that mind, don’t matter”

2)     Everything is an opinion! When you realise that everything in life is an opinion and perspective of that moment in time, you don’t let it affect the choices you make.

“Stop letting others people opinion of you become your reality”
3)     Caring comes from compassion with other people (their bodies, their partners, their things!)
“Comparison is the thief of joy”
4)     Hate and negativity is a projection!  Understand that any hate or negativity aimed in your direction is a projection of whats going on that person.
“what people think about you is none of your business”
5)     Guard what you put into your mind! If you are putting negative thoughts and garbage into your mind, that’s what’s going to become your reality!

6)     Don't let fear stop you! My biggest fears in life (quitting my job and having Holly) lead to me become the person I wanted to be.

“Behind every fear is a person you want to be!”
7)     Remember,  you are going to die! If I told you that u have a terminal brain tumour and you have 5 years to live, what would you do, who would you spend time with, what job would you do? What dreams would die with you.
“The biggest tragedy in life would be to meet the person you could have become”

August is such a busy month for social outings so here a few things that will hopefully help you get leaner faster, all the while factoring in all the social events.

1)    80:20 Rule: how to eat clean 80% of the time and be more lenient the other 20% (food, drinks etc.)
2)    Know your personality type- are you good with moderation or cold turkey? Double down on that.
3)    Finishers: burn more calories while you train (and while you rest) so you can don’t beat yourself up for overindulging at social events.
4)    Avoid fad or juice diets and watch out for strong over the counter fat burners: How to watch out for the ‘rebound rebound’ that can come from fad, juice diets or really strong fat burners.
