Jay (jtm_fit on Instagram) has an incredible story. He became addicted to drugs and alcohol at a very young age and by the time he was twenty, his life had spiralled out of control. After he hit rock bottom in 2005, he got sober and starting working out.
Since then he has gone out to create the functional method training program, has been featured on Muscle and Fitness, Men Fitness and was ranked the number 1 fitness influencer by Men’s Health in 2017.
I’ve been following Jay on Instagram for about a year and a half and his page is still one of my personal favourites. This is a great episode for anyone looking to find your physical limit and pushing past it.
Things we talked about:
Going from being a drug addict to 2017 Men’s Health fitness influencer of the year
Jay’s daily training, eating, supplements and recovery
Being a skinny kid and not adding any muscle until age 25 (he’s now 33)
Building 380k followers on Instagram
Dealing with the negative voice in your head and using your demons as fuel for the fire!

Orla qualified as a Dietitian from Kings College London. She initially obtained an honours degree in Physiology from Trinity College, allowing her to apply her detailed knowledge of the human body to the nutritional management of conditions and diseases. Since then Orla upgraded her BA in Physiology to an MA in Physiology and went on to achieve a Masters in Clinical Nutrition at Roehampton University, London.
She is one of my ‘go to’ people when it comes to the latest research on topics and I love her ability to argues the pros and cons for nearly any dietary approach. If you struggle with weight or fat loss, are on the autoimmune spectrum (thyroid issues, IBS, PCOS) or want to know how alcohol affects your sex drive (for the guys), then this is a must listen.

Dr Rupy Aujla, aka The Doctor’s Kitchen on social media, is a medical doctor specialised in General Practice and is a firm believer in the power of food and lifestyle change as medicine.
He set up his website out of a passion to inspire people about the beauty of food and the medicinal effects of eating well. He creates delicious recipes and brings attention to the clinical research behind the ingredients he uses.
Personally, I love his message -
No Myths. No Fads. Just delicious healthy food.
His amazing first book ‘The Doctors Kitchen’ is full of recipes, lifestyle tips, interesting events to attend and lots of evidence-based information from an open-minded straight-talking doctor. His new book ‘The Doctors Kitchen – Eat to beat illness’ is out in March as is now available for pre-order.
Some of the things we talked about
- How a few changes to his diet and lifestyle stopped Rupy getting a medical procedure in 2012
- How doctors only get 5 hours of nutritional training over 5 years and some of the problems with a ‘medicine only’ approach
- Tips for eating healthily when you live a super busy lifestyle
- The biggest nutrition mistakes he sees with patients
- Why our tribal mentality leads to being strict with certain diets (Vegan, Paleo, Carnivore etc)
